SERVICES: Adoption Counseling
If you are pregnant but truly cannot parent your child right now, adoption may be the best choice for you. Thinking about adoption is the beginning of a process that YOU control. You can choose certain characteristics that you want your baby’s adoptive family to have. You can decide what type of adoption you want to pursue. If you have material needs, they can be provided for during your pregnancy. And you can do all of this without having to make a final decision until after the baby’s birth. The types of adoption include:
- Closed: no contact between birth parents and adoptive parents
- Semi-open: pictures, letters, etc. may be exchanged, but no identifying information is given and contact occurs through the adoption agency
- Open: birth and adoptive families have each other’s information and can choose to establish the level of contact that both are comfortable with, without an agency’s intervention
- Kinship: A member of a birth parent’s family adopts the child and raises it as their own.
You can choose which of these options you prefer and be matched with an adoptive family with the same preference. We can help answer your questions about adoption with no commitment on your part.
If you suspect you may be pregnant, make a confidential appointment with us for a pregnancy test at no cost to you.
